Capitalism is Bananas
My stock certificate needs to get framed. I'll put it up on the wall, right next to my university diploma. The five years at a high-tech start-up were as educational, consuming and intense as graduate school.

The market value of either paper is also roughly the same - zero. And both represent a comparable value as far as my job-marketvalue goes. Both academia and capitalism taught me a thing or two. I also learned that neither really gives a damn.

Greed and ego drive capitalism and a technology start-up is an intense destillate of capitalism. Ingenuity and productivity are just tools to satisfy greed and pander to the ego. Ultimately ingenuity and productivity are sacrificed to greed and ego - and fear.

Yet, it was quite a ride, and the experience was worth the pain. Watching a nasty carnival ride is fun, but now I have the dubious privilege to say "wow - that thing really made me puke." I just need to get that stock certificate framed.
