Bananas Going Bananas? Looks like we're in good company. Alexander the Great first documented the first official banana tasting event during his tour of India in 327 B.C. Ancient Buddhist texts apparently mention the banana as far back as 600 B.C. Chinese banana plantations were documented as early as 200 A.D. Seventh-century Arabic conquerors and merchants brought the banana from Asia first to Palestine, then spread it across Africa. Anno 1516 a certain Thomas de Berlanga brought the banana to the Americas. |
