Going Bananas War is Bananas So the big guys say we're going to war with bad boys in Iraq. We donna whack that bad old Saddam Putty Tat on his big old psycho head before he dets them bad ol nukelar wepons of mass destrution. Yeah - you bet! Most certainly just so that the UN will be able to save face. No self interest here, nonononono! In fact, there are plans to rename the 82nd airborne "Iraq Liberation Brigade" or something like that. Not. The trouble with this
Iraq invasion is that the arguments are internally consistent. No doubt
there is only one cure for Saddam "gas the Kurds" Hussein: a
kick in the nuts and a bullet in the head. But Bush is proposing to kill
the fox by blowing up the chicken coop. The reason appears to be that
he does not really care so much about the chicken, but rather about giving
his chums in the petro-chem industry control of the oil reserves in Iraq.
The other argument, Iraq's support for islamist extremist terror organizations, is also hollow. Whether international terrorists are getting support from Baghdad or not, is irrelevant. They are getting support from Khartoum, Islamabad, Tripoli and Gaza. The US hardly can invade any country that harbors or supports crazy maniacs. If the US was truly interested in fighting terror, especially the islamist-extremist flavor, they would start building hospitals and schools in the West Bank and Gaza and put pressure on Israel to re-start a dialog with the Palestinians. As it is, it seems
more like the US govmint is more interested in NOT winning any "war
on terrorism" rather to drag it out indefinitely. Noticed how there
is no more talk of actually capturing Osama Bin Laden? His image, and
a vague "AlQueda" network is now the presented to the American
people as the "enemy." A blurred image of an enemy, threatening
to wreak "chaos and anarchy" on America is a great justification
for spending lots of tax $$$ on arms, intelligence, centralized command
and control. Time to pick up where the Cold War left off. 5 Feb 03 |
