The NC Transportation Museum is real interesting. The roundhouse was built in 1924 at the midpoint of the Washington - Atlanta route. Today, the roundhouse is filled with old lokomotives and train cars. Some shops in the roundhouse are used for restoration projects.
The museum has operational diesel and steam lokomotives and uses them to operate train rides on the museum grounds.
The "real Thomas" is a pretty noisy engine, belching smoke and steam, which makes Julia a bit nervous.
